The west coast hit a heatwave this Labor Day Weekend. It was 102ºF here in the North County San Diego area during the day and 97º F at night—super warm. When there is heat, light fare at meal-time is required! And… if you are barbecuing tomorrow for Labor Day, here are a couple easy and cool side dish ideas.

Cut up watermelon and avocado to serve as stand alone sides or toss them in a bowl together as a perfect salad. Add smoked sea salt and a fresh herbs atop (like mint, tarragon or cilantro) to the fruits. Then pair with a cool glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The yummy acidity of the vino works perfectly with the sweetness and creaminess of the fruits.
